New Leadership Reality

What's needed. What's not.

The new leadership reality speaks to the increasingly unconventional business environment you're operating in. Our communities, organisations and planet seem to be asking for a shift. We are in a transition.

The post pandemic world is grappling with a recession and cost of living crisis. It's exacerbated by the situation in the Ukraine and now Israel. Weather events across the globe have become the new normal. Artificial Intelligence has taken a massive leap forward while social media continues to put a spin on reality. Images from the James Webb telescope are fundamentally disrupting what scientists thought 'true' about the universe. There are challenges facing our planet way beyond economic difficulties. And where there is change there is opportunity.

Leaders are being asked to navigate uncertainty while continuing to deliver results. There is a pressing need to learn quickly - both individually and collectively. Context management has become as important as performance management.

Our workforces want greater flexibility and expect emotionally agile and intelligent support. Balancing the conversation between empathy and expectation has some leaders feeling exposed. The boundaries have shifted, yet boundaries are still required.

It’s a lot. It can feel overwhelming. Perhaps it's as it should be. We need next tier leaders functioning from higher levels of consciousness

A bigger world view

Thriving as a leader in a transitioning world requires capacity to hold a bigger world view, and a greater bandwidth for human experience.

This is what it takes to build the kind of relationships (Relate),

And have the sorts of conversations (Communicate),

That solve the problems your organisation needs you to solve (Navigate).

Here's what's not working

How low functioning leaders become a business constraint (Brakes!)

  • Low self-awareness leads to protected, defensive or controlling behaviour

  • Low emotional intelligence leads to avoiding conversations, or having them in damaging ways

  • Narrow bandwidth for diversity and emergence fails to recognise new opportunities

  • Denying reality and resistance to change becomes a limiting factor

  • Fixed mindset is blocked to new thinking and negatively affects growth

Here's what is working

How high functioning leaders accelerate business progress (Accelerator!)

  • Self-awareness enables you to manage your defences and respond appropriately

  • Confidence to lean into brave conversations means you can move value more quickly

  • Knowledge of emergent approaches provides a framework and opportunity for growth

  • Humility, courage and curiosity to deeply explore different views results in creative solutions

  • Growth mindset engages with change and challenge, and underpins learning and progress
