I have had a fairly hectic past three months by virtue of...
Moving into a new house (so good to have my own space again)
Working early mornings and late nights with clients in the UK (thank you for backing me in this online evolution)
Making work connections in New Zealand where I am now back living (very slow progress)
Trying to maintain a racing level of fitness (some triathlons coming up)
Trying to spend time with those I’m closest to (largely failing)
I’m feeling a bit fried. Sound familiar?
I’m about to stop for a holiday soon. Do you ever have that conversation with yourself as to whether it’s worth it? Between what it takes to make it happen, and the pain of re-entry on the other side, maybe I’d be better to just keep going.
Of course I will have a break and I’m grateful for it! I also know it’s vitally important to do so—More on that in this article: My Best Work Happens When I'm not Working
It’s time for a reboot, and to make some sense of what’s going on around me. I feel like my business lessons are coming faster than I can keep up with at the moment. I know it’s a good thing but it hurts a bit! I have some great people giving me great advice—but I'm a bit overwhelmed and I’ve run out of ears right now.
Such can be change and transition. But will the change and transition ever stop?
A client was recently speaking of chaos and described his experience as trying to build a jet engine on a plane that was already airborne.
I invited him to stop, and notice the chaos. To see it as a messenger rather than a problem to fix. I asked; ‘What is the chaos trying to tell you?’
I am going to swallow my own pill—I invite you to do the same!
What are you trying to achieve? How does that guide what I am doing with my time and energy?
Are the difficulties and challenges happening to you, or for you?
What learning do they offer
What conversations are you avoiding?
What else are you avoiding?
Remember—chaos and order is a continuous game of hide and seek. Chaos, change and progress are part of a continuous cycle.
Breathe
What problems have you created or imagined?
What one next thing can you do
What do you need to notice and what action do you need to take?
What is it you are trying not to notice! :-)
What do you need to let go of or get over?
